Strasburg Downtown Revitalization Project (CDBG)

Project Type:
Capital Project
Project Status:
Approved

In 2013 the Town received a planning grant from the Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) in order to determine the best course of action to help revitalize downtown Strasburg. Following the conclusion of the planning grant program, the Town applied for and received an implementation grant from DHCD known as the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program. The Town was awarded $700,000 in matching funds to proceed with a two part program for the revitalization of downtown. These two parts are the Facade Improvement Grant program, and the Community Improvements Project, which together comprise the Strasburg Downtown Revitalization Project.

The Facade Improvement Grant program allows owners within a certain geographic area to apply for matching funds (up to $20,000) to improve the fronts of their commercial structures.

The Community Improvements Project includes the creation of an event space and other public improvement in downtown Strasburg. Specifically, an events pavilion and music stage will be constructed on the site of where the Brill buildings and Taxi stand previously stood, and a pedestrian bridge will connect the site to the Town Hall parking lot across Town Run. Sidewalk will be installed alongside Town run, stretching from the back of the Town Hall parking lot to Washington street. The "Town Lot" parking lot on Washington will be repaved and striped with additional parking, and pedestrian level lighting will be added throughout the project.
